Artist statement

My work is defined by a fundamental duality: a continuous dialogue between inward introspection and outward observation. This balance allows me to explore self-knowledge through both the subconscious and the shared human experience.

The Internal: Surrealism and the Subconscious My creative process often begins with "automatic writing" in my journal and sketches made without lifting the pencil from the paper—allowing forms to emerge before the mind can rationalize them. Through this intuitive self-analysis, I embrace Surrealism as a space free from judgment or rules. My paintings are filled with a personal lexicon of symbols: birds, doors, swans, clocks, and echoes of Greek mythology or classical literature. These elements act as vessels for internal questions and emotional processing, externalizing a reality where every detail is intentional and nothing goes unnoticed.

The External: Documentary and the Human Face The second part of my practice turns toward the world. Through hyperrealistic portraits, documentary drawing, and photography, I record the lives of individuals encountered by chance. This "social hunger" drives me to acknowledge the humanity of those often overlooked. Whether through a shared conversation or a respectful glance, the act of pausing carries profound significance; it is a rejection of indifference. For me, the human face is an endless source of curiosity—a map of stories that deserve to be recorded with accuracy and empathy.

The Synthesis: Sensitivity as Responsibility Guided by the humanities; philosophy, sociology, and letters—I view art as a tool for deepening our connection to reality. I believe artists possess a heightened sensitivity to nuances: the subtle tilt of a head, a fleeting expression, or the texture of an emotion. As José Saramago said, "Our task is to become more human." In my practice, the external world becomes a mirror for self-understanding, while my internal world informs how I portray the "other." Ultimately, my art is an exercise in solidarity, compassion, and the relentless pursuit of what it means to be alive.
